  2. A situation in which someone has 2 jobs.

We would like to talk about the situation where a person has 2 jobs. There are many reasons why people would chose to have a full time corporate gig and a hustle on the side. Some do it for extra money but some do it because they have a passion that is fulfilled by a side hustle while the corporate gig fulfils the financial needs. “When you are passionate about something, it will never leave you” Jabulile Gwala Founder of In Good Company & Siko Republik and Head of Marketing. It can be daunting to work on different projects at a time but we have 168 hours every week and 52 weeks in a year so if we learn how to optimize and be purposeful with our time, we can achieve a lot. There are a few things that one can do to ensure that they are not overwhelmed by the pressure.

1Time Management: you have enough time to get through all that is required from you but you cannot do that if you do not plan your days to the very last second. Start your days early to ensure that you are fully prepared for the day. “It is also important to record all your daily activity and review the list on a regular basis to see where and when you are being unproductive” says Thabo Moloi, One Young World Ambassador & Social Entrepreneur. This has to be one of the best things that you can do for yourself, just keep track of where you are spending your time and you will find many opportunities to optimize.

2Healthy relationship with Money: your relationship with money is usually a reflection of how you are feeling internally. It is important to deal with part as it will affect how you manage your finances especially with

3Collaborate: you can only do so much on your own. It is important to know yourself, know your strengths and weaknesses so that you know where you need to collaborate and with whom you need to collaborate with. See, when you are reporting to a boss on a daily basis and you are the boss on a daily basis, it is critical that you take the time to learn about the things that you need to be successful in both your roles, so you can reach out to others who can complement you on your journey. “No one makes it to the top alone, it just doesn’t happen” Jabulile Gwala. Do not force the relationships, the right relationships will happen for you and when they do, you will know.

4Notebook Gang: Always document or capture your thoughts. Inspiration for your business or solutions for your corporate problem may come during odd times so it’s important to write down your thoughts. When you think of all the times you have had to wait at a restaurant for that business meeting, instead of being frustrated because someone is running late, use the time to check the to do list, plan for the week ahead or right those ideas that come to you because you finally have the time to think.

5Stay Motivated: give yourself a pep talk. All the time. No one is going to do it for you, so just add it as one of your healthy daily habits. Send yourself love notes, tell yourself “you got it” and allow yourself to be scared at times, just pep talk yourself into moving forward despite the fear very quickly. Surround yourself with people that inspire you and help you overcome your obstacles. Find spaces (events, digital platforms, venues etc) of inspiration with like minded individuals. Invest in yourself. Allow yourself time to rest when you are feeling tired or drained. “you cannot pour from an empty cup” Some wise person. Set appointments for this part of your life as well, whether it’s prayer, meditation or reading a good book, set appointments for the things that refill you and honour those appointments.

You have enough time to do all the things that your heart desires, you just cannot do them all at the same time. “when you rise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love” Marcus Aurelius, so use your time more effectively.
